HALKİ PALACE HOTEL
Halki
(Heybeli) Palace, one of the oldest and finest hotels in vicinity of
the Princess Islands, is thought to have been built between 1852-1862.
It has always been regarded as “unique” for it’s period.
Located on Refah Şehitleri Street (Ismet Inönü Street), the hotel is
situated on the once called Meryemana Path. Halki Palace was constructed
wşth great vigour by one of the most significant commercial schools of
the 19 th century Elen Commercial School educated 250 students coming
from Marsilya, Alexandria, The Balkans, Trabzons, Kapadokia, Istanbul
and other parts of the Empire. The hotel was built in order to serve
the parents coming to visit their children attending the school. Since
the hotel’s foundation, Halki Palace has fallen under the care of different
people. By 1937, Halki Palace was run by one caretaker who eventually
hired the hotel out as single rooms. Consequently, the hotel being in
bad shape, was in serious need of repair.
In 1989 the building was rented and repaired by NET HOLDING and eventually
put back into service. Unfortunately, the fire which broke out on September
21,1991 could not be put out. Despite the hard efford, the hotel burned
down completely. Compelled by historical significance of Halki Palace,
NET HOLDING once again carried out the task of reconstruction.
Today
the building is rented by NET KONAKLAMA YATIRIMLARI IŞLETME SAN. TİC.
A.Ş. as a branch of NET HOLDING. In order to restore and take over building,
3,000,000 U.S Dollars were spent by NET YAPI. It is now run by MERİT
INTERNATIONAL.
Thus, restoration plans for historical aspects of the building were carefully
designed (all fronts have been preserved to represent the floor plants.)
The building which stands on an area of 3600 m² with a 620 m² base area
has a total construction area, of 3,500 m². The Halki Palace has 36 bedrooms,
9 suites, a lobby and lobby bar, a cafeteria. Restaurant, two sitting
lounges TV room and daycare, swimming pool. The Halki Palace has access
to island’s forest which offers which offers facilities for recreationssuch
as riding, cycling and jogging. |
